Allen K. Short provides comprehensive investment planning with a focus on retirement for college and university faculty members and other advanced-degree professionals. His mission is to help clients preserve, maximize and diversify their personal wealth during their career years and to establish a dependable lifelong stream of income in retirement.
In addition to his CFP® designation, Allen also is a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®) having completed coursework and knowledge testing on crucial issues facing prospective retirees, including cash-flow needs, risk management, taxation and estate planning.
Allen’s approach to wealth management is client-centered; all investment recommendations and written investment plans are focused on fulfilling a client’s individual financial needs and goals.
Allen is a former newspaper journalist, Pulitzer Prize finalist and real estate investment consultant who joined Wells Fargo Advisors in 2012. He previously worked as a financial advisor at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He received his undergraduate degree in American History from the Johns Hopkins University in 1974 and attended Stanford University as a graduate fellow-in-residence in 1986-1987.
He is married with three children and resides in St. Paul with his wife Virginia, a Realtor. Together, they enjoy keeping fit, preparing healthy meals, and being outdoors, especially on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Allen also enjoys grilling, hiking and fly-fishing.
An Eagle Scout, he serves as an adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and is a past president of the Pine Bend Association, a Minnesota non-profit that provides outdoor and wilderness education programs for Scouts and other youths.
